At the time of writing, it had been sixty years since Frog Lane Colliery at Coalpit Heath in South Gloucestershire closed. But memories of the colliery were still strong. Published in 2009, this book examines the history of the colliery: work on the surface and underground, the private railway, and the social life of the colliers.
The book is lavishly illustrated with photographs, many taken in 1906, and maps and plans of the surface and the underground workings.
Throughout the work are reminiscences by men who worked at the colliery and by residents of Coalpit Heath and district who recall the impact of colliery life in the area. As such, the book forms an extremely valuable piece of social history. This book will appeal to social historians, South Gloucestershire residents, industrial historians and anyone interested in mining history.
Lightmoor Press published the book with the South Gloucestershire Mining Research Group. It has over 150 illustrations, plus maps and ephemera. The book is 104 pages, 275mm x 210mm, printed on gloss art paper, and perfectly bound with laminated card covers.
