An interesting diversion is the following ‘Emersons Green Audio Tour’. The audio tour with accompanying map features a number of local mine-related articles. Steve Grudgings, our current chairman, talks on the mining topics (Namely Stops 4 and 7). Steve also adds, “This is an adept and useful introduction to the history of Emerson’s Green and focuses on a number of key features. Those on Church Farm Colliery and the Dramway are concerned with local Coal Mining – I recommend it as a short introduction to Local History”. The audio tour and map are available at:

If you live in South Gloucestershire, you may have seen these mining relics in Yate on the roundabout next to Morrisons and B&Q. There is now an information board nearby about Celestine which was open-cast mined in the area. More info at (Celestine tab) and in our book at
