Databases - SGMRG Website

The SGMRG hold detailed databases that relate to mining in the local area. These databases are:

Miners Database: A database of people who were known to be miners (mainly coal miners) or closely associated with miners, who worked in the local mines. It includes information on mining accidents searchable by Miner’s Name.
Documents Database: A large database of documents related to mining in the local area.

1. By submitting this form you agree to the SGMRG holding this information> Whilst using the database some information about you may be captured or stored relating to your browsing history. Anonymised usage information may be used to help improve this website and database. Any data will be handled in accordance with the SGMRG data protection policy.
2. Once your application has been considered and approved, you are welcome to use the database subject to the following conditions:
a. As a researcher you have responsibilities in respect of personal data. When you get such data from the database you assume responsibility for compliance with the Data Protection Legislation. You are responsible for looking after that data and for any later use you make of it.
b. The permission is personal to you and must not be shared with anyone else.
c. Permission is for private study and research only.
d. If you wish to publish material that draws upon this database you must seek the consent of the data owner. We will be happy to help you confirm who the original data owner is if you do not know. Information that is in the public domain e.g. census data may be cited, but for all information consent to use must be obtained from the data owner.
e. Any material whether data or ideas used in any publication directly or indirectly must be credited, to SGMRG database and the original source where appropriate. We have worked hard to include original record references wherever possible and within the limits of any publication we require users to reflect those references accurately.
3. We take no liability for any errors or omissions. The data is only for us in private historic research and must not be used in the context of any legal or other matter.
4. This database is a mutual research environment. It is compiled by volunteers who themselves have identified the material in their research. By joining this community of researchers and accessing the database you agree to share information with the database managers so that others can benefit from the additional material. So if in the course of your research you identify additional material that would be suitable for the database you will need to share that information so it can be added to the database.
